Ingredients per serving

4 cups (17.5oz/500g) flour

1 package dry yeast

1 cup (8.8fl oz/1/4l) lukewarm milk

1/3 cup (2.1oz/60g) sugar

1/3 cup (2.1oz/60g) butter at room temperature

1 egg

1 pinch of salt

1 1/4 cup (8oz/200g) Genauva milk chocolate gems

1 egg yolk

a few raisins


Surprise Easter Bunny Bread


  • Pre-heat the oven at 425°F (220°C)
  • Line the baking sheet with baking paper
  • Sift the flour in a bowl, add the dry yeast in the middle of the flour, add lukewarm milk, sugar, melted butter and egg
  • Add the salt at the outer side of the bowl(make sure it doesn’t touch the yeast)
  • Beat the batter until you see air bubbles
  • Cover the bowl with a plastic foil and let it rise at a warm spot for about 20 minutes
  • Remove the dough from the bowl
  • Roll out in a 0.2in (4mm) thick slab
  • Divide the dough in 1/3 and 2/3
  • Cut out rounds of 3.1in (8cm) and rounds of 2in (5cm) from the 2/3 portion
  • Brush beaten egg yolk at the edges of the rounds
  • Put a tbsp of milk chocolate gems in the middle
  • Lay another round of dough on top and press the sides
  • Form with the rest of the dough the ears and feet of the bunny
  • Shape the bunny
  • Press the raisins to form the eyes and bellybutton
  • Transfer the bunny to a paper lined baking sheet
  • Cover and let rise on a warm spot for 20 minutes
  • Brush egg yolk on the bunny
  • Bake for 15 minutes on the second lowest ridge
  • Let cool down on a wire rack
